Newton Hall — Northumberland's finest coastal wedding venue

Newton Hall in Newton-by-the-Sea is an 18th-century Georgian mansion blending historic charm with contemporary sophistication. Surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and rolling countryside, its greatest advantage is its proximity to the beach — just a short walk away.

For couples who dream of combining a country house wedding with the windswept beauty of the Northumberland coast, it is hard to imagine a more perfect setting. I have photographed multiple weddings at Newton Hall, and the beach portraits never disappoint.

The beach at Newton Hall

The nearby golden sands and sweeping North Sea views provide a breathtaking backdrop for wedding portraits. The beach is a short walk from the hall, and I always plan a session there around golden hour — the final hour before sunset, when the light is warm and directional.

Beach portraits at Newton Hall are some of the most striking images I capture at any wedding. The combination of golden light, soft sand, and the wide-open North Sea creates a sense of space and drama that is hard to replicate anywhere else.

Wet weather at Newton Hall

Northumberland weather can be unpredictable, but Newton Hall has excellent indoor options. The landscaped gardens work in light rain — the Georgian architecture provides covered porticos and doorways that frame portraits beautifully. For heavier rain, the elegant interior rooms offer a warm and sophisticated backdrop.

Some of my favourite Newton Hall photographs have been taken in moody, overcast conditions. The soft, diffused light flatters skin tones and the dramatic skies add atmosphere that sunny days cannot match.

Choosing the right package for your Newton Hall wedding

For Newton Hall weddings, I recommend the Premium Collection or Ultimate Collection. The second photographer can cover the getting-ready shots while I capture the venue and guests arriving. The Ultimate Collection's twilight shots are particularly stunning at Newton Hall — the beach at dusk, with off-camera lighting, creates images that look like they belong in a magazine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we do beach portraits at Newton Hall?+
Yes — the beach is just a short walk from Newton Hall through the grounds. I always plan a beach portrait session around golden hour, the last hour before sunset. The golden sands and North Sea views make for some of the most striking wedding portraits in the region.
What is the best time of year for a Newton Hall wedding?+
May through September offers the best weather and longest days, with golden hour falling later in the evening. September is particularly special — the light is softer, the crowds have thinned, and the North Sea is at its warmest.
Do you charge travel for Newton Hall weddings?+
No. Travel to Newton Hall is included in all my wedding packages. I am based in Carlisle, approximately 90 minutes away, and I always arrive in plenty of time to scout the venue and capture getting-ready shots.
