Armathwaite Hall is a breathtaking country house hotel and spa on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake District — a venue with a rich and fascinating history stretching back to the 11th century.
The first recorded mention of a house on this site dates back to 1092, when it was owned by the de Bassenthwaite family. Over the centuries, the hall passed through several notable families and was extended and remodelled on numerous occasions, each addition adding to its character and grandeur.
In the 18th century, the hall was home to James Spedding, squire to Lord Egremont and a close friend of the poet William Wordsworth. The two visited each other frequently, and Wordsworth was so moved by the beauty of the hall and its surroundings that he wrote several poems about it, including "The Haunted Tree" and "Armathwaite Hall."
Today, Armathwaite Hall is one of the Lake District's most sought-after wedding venues. Licensed for civil ceremonies, it offers a variety of wedding packages to suit different budgets and styles. With its stunning lakefront location, elegant interiors, and exceptional facilities, it is a setting that turns a wedding day into something truly extraordinary.
