Wedding photography across Cumbria
Cumbria is England's second-largest county and arguably its most beautiful. From the rugged fells of the Lake District to the gentle valleys of the Eden, from the historic city of Carlisle to the dramatic Cumbrian coast — it is a place of extraordinary variety, and a extraordinary place to get married.
I have been a Cumbria-based wedding photographer for many years. I live in Carlisle, and I have photographed weddings at venues across the length and breadth of the county. Whether you are planning a grand celebration at a country house or an intimate ceremony in a village church, I would love to be part of your day.
Carlisle wedding photographer
As a Carlisle-based photographer, I am perfectly positioned to cover weddings across north Cumbria and the Eden Valley. Carlisle has a growing range of excellent wedding venues — from Rose Castle in Dalston to Dalston Hall and Inn on the Lake on Ullswater.
Carlisle's location also means I can reach the northern Lake District in under an hour, the Northumberland coast in around 90 minutes, and South-West Scotland in just over an hour — making me one of the most conveniently located wedding photographers in the region.
Cumbria wedding venues I have photographed
Over the years I have built up a deep knowledge of Cumbria's wedding venues. Some of the standouts include:
- Rose Castle — a medieval castle in Dalston with a chapel, Great Hall, and stunning gardens.
- Dalston Hall — a charming country house near Carlisle with a Great Hall, orangery, and marquee.
- Armathwaite Hall — a lakeside country house hotel and spa on Bassenthwaite Lake.
- Inn on the Lake — a stunning lakeside hotel on Ullswater with 26 acres of gardens.
- The Country House, Brampton — a warm and welcoming venue in the north of the county.
For the full guide to each venue — including the best light, wet weather plans, and package recommendations — see my Cumbria and Lake District wedding venue guide.
Natural, documentary-style wedding photography
My style is natural and documentary-led. I do not spend the day bossing people around or staging elaborate set pieces. Instead, I capture the day as it happens — the nervous glances during the ceremony, the laughter during the speeches, the tears on the dance floor.
For portraits, I guide couples into natural, flattering positions and then let the moment breathe. The result is images that feel like you, not like a photography catalogue. You can see examples in my wedding gallery.
