Asian wedding photography in the Lake District and beyond
Asian weddings are among the most vibrant, joyful, and emotionally rich celebrations I have the privilege to photograph. From the intricate henna patterns of the mehndi to the energy of the baraat, from the solemnity of the ceremony to the exuberance of the reception — every moment is worth capturing.
I have photographed numerous Asian weddings across the Lake District, Cumbria, and South-West Scotland, including multi-day Sikh, Hindu, and Muslim celebrations at Kinmount House. My documentary style is perfectly suited to these events — I capture the richness of each tradition without interrupting the flow.
What makes Asian weddings different to photograph
Asian weddings present unique challenges and opportunities for a photographer:
- Scale. Guest numbers are often large — sometimes 300 or more. Managing group shots efficiently is essential. See my group photo list for how I keep this organised.
- Multiple events. A typical Asian wedding spans two to three days, with each event having its own character and key moments. I cover them all with the same attention to detail.
- Colour and detail. The outfits, the jewellery, the decorations — Asian weddings are a feast of colour and texture. I capture the details as carefully as the emotions.
- Energy. The baraat — the groom's arrival procession — is one of the most energetic, chaotic, and joyful events I photograph. You need a photographer who can keep up.
Key moments to capture at an Asian wedding
The mehndi
The mehndi ceremony is where the celebration begins. Intricate henna patterns, music, dancing, and the gathering of family and friends. I capture the detail of the henna, the laughter of the women, and the joy of the occasion.
The baraat
The baraat — the groom's arrival — is one of the most spectacular events at an Asian wedding. Music, dancing, a horse or a car, and the full energy of the groom's family and friends. Drone aerial images of the baraat are simply spectacular — the scale and colour of the procession from above is breathtaking.
The ceremony
Whether it is the lavaan (Sikh), the saat phere (Hindu), or the nikah (Muslim), the ceremony is the heart of the day. I work unobtrusively to capture every key moment — the exchange of vows, the blessings, the emotions of the families.
The reception
The reception is where the celebration reaches its peak — speeches, dancing, food, and the full joy of the gathered families. I stay to the end, capturing the energy of the dance floor and the quiet moments between the couple as the night draws to a close.
Choosing the right venue for an Asian wedding
Kinmount House in Annan is one of the most popular venues for Asian weddings in the region. Its expansive grounds accommodate large gatherings, the flexible interior spaces work for multiple events, and the mansion facade provides a spectacular backdrop for the baraat and group shots.Other excellent venues for Asian weddings include Armathwaite Hall on Bassenthwaite Lake and larger country houses across Cumbria that can accommodate big guest numbers.
Asian wedding photography packages
For Asian weddings, I recommend the Premium Collection or Ultimate Collection. The second photographer is essential for multi-day celebrations — it ensures every moment is captured, even when events are happening simultaneously. Drone aerials, included in all packages, are particularly spectacular at Asian weddings.
For multi-day celebrations, I offer tailored quotes based on the number of days and events. Get in touch to discuss your plans.
